In the absence of one, a digital caliper can be readily procured from platforms such as eBay at a nominal cost (approximately $20) and proves invaluable for various other projects. Using a standard ruler increases the likelihood of measurement errors, potentially resulting in an ill-fitting cap that is either too loose or excessively snug. It is worth noting that vintage brass lenses may possess non-uniformly shaped hoods. In such instances, I advise utilizing digital calipers to gauge the hood’s dimensions at multiple points. Kindly relay the largest diameter observed when placing your order, and feel free to include a few of the smaller measurements in the notes section if you wish.
